There is no single price per m² for liquid screed. The cost of a liquid screed floor depends mainly on how much screed the floor needs, which product is used, how easily the pump can reach the site and what preparation is included. The quickest way to get an accurate figure is to send your floor area, approximate depth and location to the team for a quote.

Cotswold Flow Screed installs pump-applied liquid screed across Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and the Cotswolds from our base in Evesham. This guide explains what affects the price, so you know what to expect and what to have ready when you ask for a quote.

Why there is no single price per m²

Online price lists usually quote a rate per square metre, but two floors of the same size can need very different amounts of screed. A floor laid over underfloor heating pipes or insulation is often deeper than a screed bonded to a concrete slab, and depth changes the amount of material needed. Access, preparation and the product chosen all add further variation.

That is why liquid screed is quoted per project. A quote based on your actual floor area, depth and site gives you a figure you can plan around, rather than an estimate that changes once the details are known.

Floor area and depth: how volume drives the cost

Liquid screed is delivered to site ready-mixed and measured by volume, in cubic metres (m³). The volume your project needs is the floor area multiplied by the screed depth, so both measurements matter.

  • A larger floor area needs more screed, but the set-up of the pour is shared across more square metres.
  • A deeper screed needs more material for the same area. Small differences in depth add up across a whole floor.
  • Uneven floors or varying levels can change how much screed is needed in places.

If you know your floor area and the depth shown on your drawings, include both when you ask for a quote. If you are not sure of the depth, the team can advise based on your floor build-up.

Gyvlon or Cemfloor: how product choice affects the price

Cotswold Flow Screed installs two types of liquid screed, supplied pre-mixed through our partner Flowmix:

  • Gyvlon anhydrite screed, a calcium sulphate-based liquid screed commonly used in homes and commercial buildings, with a range of additive options.
  • Cemfloor cementitious screed, a cement-based liquid screed often chosen where an anhydrite screed is not suitable. Cemfloor Level Plus is available for projects where depth is limited.

The two products are priced differently, and the right choice depends on your floor build-up, whether underfloor heating is involved and the floor finish you plan to lay. The team will recommend a product as part of your quote, so you are not left choosing on price alone.

Site access, pump position and pour size

Liquid screed is pumped from the delivery vehicle into the building through a hose, so the layout of your site affects how the pour is planned. Things that can affect the quote include:

  • how close the delivery vehicle and pump can park to the building
  • the length of hose needed to reach the floor area, including upper floors
  • whether the pour can be done in one visit or needs to be split into stages
  • restrictions such as narrow lanes, weight limits or parking permits

Rural sites and older buildings are common across the Cotswolds, so mention any access limits when you request your quote.

Preparation and extras

Before liquid screed is poured, the area needs a polythene barrier laid and taped throughout, and perimeter expansion foam fitted to all walls and vertical features. You can do this yourself, or add it to your order.

Cotswold Flow Screed lists these as optional services on every quotation, so you can see exactly what is included:

  • Polythene barrier: supply, laying and taping throughout the screed area
  • Perimeter expansion foam: supply, fitting and sealing to walls and vertical features
  • Sanding: commonly recommended for anhydrite screed to remove the surface laitance, and for Cemfloor to key the surface ready for adhesive

If you plan to fit your own barrier and expansion foam, it needs to be finished before the pre-installation site visit, which is usually the day before the pour. See Other Services for more detail.

Projects with underfloor heating

Liquid screed is commonly used with warm-water underfloor heating because it flows around the pipework. On these projects, the depth of screed over the pipes and the product choice both affect the cost, so tell the team if heating is part of your floor build-up.

Cotswold Flow Screed installs the screed only. Heating design and installation is carried out by our sister company, Underfloor Heating Technologies, and the two can be coordinated where both are needed.

How to get an accurate quote

A clear quote depends on clear project details. When you contact the team, include:

  1. the site location or postcode
  2. the approximate floor area in m²
  3. the screed depth, if known from drawings
  4. whether underfloor heating is being installed
  5. the type of project, for example an extension, new build or renovation
  6. any access restrictions
  7. when you expect the floor to be ready for screed

If anything is unknown, the team can advise based on your plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do liquid screed quotes vary between companies?
plus icon

Quotes often differ because of what they include. Some include preparation, sanding or site visits, and others list them separately. When comparing quotes, check that each one covers the same floor area, depth, product and preparation.

Is liquid screed more expensive than traditional screed?
plus icon

It depends on the project. Liquid screed material is priced differently from sand and cement, but it is pumped into place rather than laid by hand, which changes the labour involved. The team can talk through how the options compare for your floor.

Can I get a quote without exact measurements?
plus icon

Yes. Send what you know, such as your location and approximate floor area, and the team can advise on depth and product from your plans or drawings.

Can I do the preparation myself to reduce the cost?
plus icon

Yes. You can fit the polythene barrier and perimeter expansion foam yourself, as long as the work is finished before the pre-installation site visit, which is usually the day before the pour.
